(a) Unless considered confidential by law, a certified or uncertified copy of a boat record under AS 05.25.055 is available during regular business hours upon request and payment of a reasonable fee equal to the cost to the department to produce the record. For the purposes of this subsection, "regular business hours" means 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for state holidays. (b) A record of an application for boat title when the boat is titled and registered, or a registration when the boat is not titled, and records of the denial, suspension, or revocation of the title will be retained by the department for a period of 15 years following entry into the title history or registration file for a boat. After the 15-year period, the department may destroy under AS 40.21 a record with no further activity. (c) A copy of an individual boat record or a boat registration list may be obtained upon request and payment of fees as follows: (1) single boat record, $10; (2) electronic record, $5; (3) boat registration list, $50 minimum fee for the first 1,000 records and an additional $.05 for each record after the first 1,000 records. (d) The department may provide a boat record or boat registration list at no charge to a municipal, state, or federal administrative or judicial agency.
