(a) Except as provided in (b) of this section, a record of an application for a driver's license or identification card and a record of the denial, suspension, revocation, cancellation, or disqualification of a driver's license or identification card will be retained by the department for a period of 15 years following the entry into the department's database. After the 15-year period, the department will destroy under AS 40.21 a record with no further activity. (b) A record of an application for a commercial driver's license and a record of the denial, suspension, revocation, cancellation, or disqualification of a commercial driver's license will be retained by the department for a period of 55 years following the entry into the department's database. After the 55-year period, the department will destroy under AS 40.21 a record with no further activity.
