PRE-2024 COMMITTEE NOTE

The Committee believes that Local Civil Rule 53.1 serves a useful purpose by clarifying

two subjects that are not dealt with in Fed. R. Civ. P. 53.

2024 COMMITTEE NOTE

The Committee has amended Local Civil Rule 53.1 to remove outdated language and

provisions relating to the appointment of masters to sit outside the district, as such a

requirement is no longer necessary given the broad authority to review orders relating

to special masters set forth in Fed. R. Civ. P. 53.
