- ADOPTION OF RULES: EFFECTIVE DATE (a) Pursuant to Rule 57 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the following criminal rules of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania are adopted this 29th day of February, 1972 1 and shall become effective the 1st day of March, 1972. These rules shall apply to all cases pending on that date to the extent feasible. (b) These Rules may be cited and referred to as "Local Criminal Rules" or abbreviated as "L.C.R." (c) Unless otherwise indicated, reference to these rules to the Judge shall mean the Judge to whom the case is assigned, (or in his or her absence the Emergency Judge) and to the Magistrate Judge shall mean the United States Magistrate Judge to whom the case is assigned. (d) Unless otherwise indicated, reference in these Rules to the United States Attorney shall also mean the Assistant United States Attorney, Assistant Attorneys General or Special Government Attorneys assigned to a case.

(e) In cases where defendants proceed pro se, reference to defendant's attorney applies to defendant. Effective January 1, 1998. Note 1 : Except as otherwise noted. - 3 -
