WARNING – Jury Phone Scam The U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska has recently received multiple reports from individuals who received fraudulent phone calls from scammers claiming to be U.S. Marshals, court officers, or other law enforcement officials seeking to collect a fine in lieu of arrest for failing to report for jury duty. To appear more credible, the scammers may spoof the court’s phone number in the caller ID, provide information such as badge numbers and names of actual federal judges and law enforcement officials, and courthouse addresses. The court urges the public not to provide money or personal or financial information to unknown callers, even if they sound legitimate. The initial contact between the court and a prospective juror will be through the U.S. Mail. Persons receiving such jury scam calls are encouraged to report them to the local Federal Bureau of Investigation at 402-493-8688 or https://tips.fbi.gov and to the Federal Trade Commission at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov.
