Abstract

'The grain of truth' in international conspiracy theses Since the Oklahoma bombing, I discovered that in moving to Michigan, I moved to the heartland of the American militia movement. As a law professor teaching about the UN system I am regarded by at least some members of these militias as a fundamental threat to American liberties, part of a conspiratorial plot to impose an international world government on hapless U.S. citizens who are already overtaxed, overregulated, and threatened by their own federal government. Many members of these militias reportedly believe that they are the last line of defense against UN peace-keepers intent on creating a totalitarian world order, presumably to be imposed beginning in the American Mid-West.
