Representation by counsel

A child between seven and seventeen years of age against whom a complaint is made that he or she is a wayward or delinquent child, shall be represented by counsel at every stage of the proceedings if it shall appear to the court that such child may be committed to the custody of the Youth Service Board as the result of such complaint. The court may require psychological testing and psychiatric examination whenever expedient. Appointment of counsel, or an election to proceed without counsel, shall be governed by the provisions of Rule 3:10 of the General Rules of the Supreme Judicial Court and Rule 10 of the Initial Rules of Criminal Procedure of the District Courts.
