In any case where the court has assumed jurisdiction over a child by the authorizing of the filing of a petition or otherwise, the court may, pending disposition of the case, release the child in custody of a parent, guardian, other custodian, the Director of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, or other person appointed by the court.
