Purpose, Application, and Construction of Rules

(a) Purpose . These rules are intended to provide for the just determination of every criminal proceeding. (b) Application . These rules shall be applied to secure simplicity in procedure, fairness in administration, and the elimination of unjustifiable expense and delay. (c) Construction . In the construction of the Pennsylvania Rules of Criminal Procedure, the principles set forth in Pa.R.J.A. 104 to 115 shall be observed. Comment: These rules were adopted under the Act of July 11, 1957, P.L. 819, 17 P.S. § 2084 (Supp.), which was repealed by JARA, 42 P.S. § 20002(a), and replaced by 42 Pa.C.S. § 1722(a)(1).
