1.1. Purpose. These rules should be construed and enforced to foster professionalism and civility; to permit the orderly, just, and prompt consideration and determination of all matters; and to promote the efficient administration of justice. 1.2. Scope. These rules govern every civil action that is designated as a mandatory complex business case or assigned to a Business Court judge under Rule 2.1 of the General Rules of Practice. 1.3. Integration. These rules are intended to supplement, not supplant, the Rules of Civil Procedure and the General Rules of Practice. To the extent these rules conflict with local rules or standing orders from the county of venue, these rules will govern. 1.4. Definitions. (a) (b) (c) “The Court” refers to the North Carolina Business Court. “The General Rules of Practice” refers to the General Rules of Practice for the Superior and District Courts Supplemental to the Rules of Civil Procedure. “The Rules of Civil Procedure” refers to the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure. 1.5.
