Purpose and Construction

These rules should be construed so as to administer every proceeding fairly, eliminate unjustifiable expense and delay, and promote the development of evidence law, to the end of ascertaining the truth and securing a just determination. While decisions of federal courts involving the Federal Rules of Evidence may be helpful in analyzing problems and issues that arise under these rules, the New Hampshire Supreme Court shall be the final interpreter of these rules. 2016 NHRE Update Committee Note The amendment made by supreme court order dated April 20, 2017, effective July 1, 2017, made stylistic changes to the rule.
