(a) Filing. A petition for new trial in a case pending before this Court must be transmitted by the Judge Advocate General of the service concerned. See Article 73, UCMJ, 10 U.S.C. § 873. (b) Notice. Upon receipt of a petition for new trial transmitted by the Judge Advocate General, the Clerk will notify all counsel of record of its filing. (c) Briefs. A brief in support of a petition for new trial, unless expressly incorporated in the petition, must be filed substantially in the form specified in Rule 24 no later than twenty-eight days after the Clerk issues a notice of the filing of the petition. An appellee may file an answer no later than twenty-eight days after the filing of an appellant’s brief. The appellant may file a reply no later than fourteen days after the appellee files its answer. (d) Special Master. The Court may refer the petition for new trial to a special master to make further investigation, to take evidence, and to make recommendations to the Court. MOTIONS
