(a) General Rule. If the court rules on a motion or other application when an affected party who has appeared in the action is not present—either in person or by the party’s attorney—the court immediately must serve notice of the ruling. (b) Exception for Case with Large Number of Parties. The court may modify the notice requirement in subsection (a)—on motion or on its own—in an action involving an unusually large number of parties.
