2.73(1) Generally. The magistrate, on motion of a defendant, may grant a new trial on the grounds set forth in rule 2.24(2)(b). 2.73(2) Newly discovered evidence. A motion for a new trial based on newly discovered evidence must be made within 6 months after the final judgment. 2.73(3) Other grounds. A motion for a new trial based on any other grounds shall be made within 7 days after a finding of guilty or within such further time as the magistrate may fix during the 7-day period.
