(a) IN GENERAL. A party asserting a claim, counterclaim, crossclaim, or third-party claim may join, as independent or alternative claims, as many claims as it has against an opposing party. (b) JOINDER OF CONTINGENT CLAIMS. A party may join 2 claims even though one of them is contingent on the disposition of the other; but the court may grant relief only in accordance with the parties’ relative substantive rights. COMMENT TO 2018 AMENDMENTS This rule has been amended to conform to Civil Rule 18. COMMENT SCR-Dom. Rel. 18 permits joinder of all claims a party has against an opposing party, regardless of whether they arise out of the marriage or would otherwise be cognizable in the Family Division. See SCR-Dom. Rel. 1. Where the Court deems it appropriate, it may sever the claims pursuant to SCR-Dom. Rel. 42(b).
