(1) Extensions of time for filing petitions for certiorari, applications for appeal, and motions for reconsideration will be granted only in unusual circumstances and only if the request is filed before the time for filing has expired. The request should explain why the extension is needed and the position of the opposing party. A copy of the order granting the extension must be included as an exhibit to the document for which the extension was granted. (2) Requests for extensions of time for filing briefs should be filed sufficiently in advance of their due dates so that, if the request is denied, the briefs can still be filed within the time fixed by these rules.
