(a) Formal Proceedings. A formal proceeding is a hearing conducted before the court with notice to interested persons. Formal proceedings seek a judicial determination. (b) Informal Proceedings. An informal proceeding is conducted by the judge, the registrar, or the person or persons designated by the judge for probate of a will or appointment of a personal representative. Informal proceedings seek an administrative determination and not a judicial determination and are granted without prior notice and hearing. (c) Supervised Administration. Supervised administration is a single, continuous, in rem proceeding commenced by a formal proceeding. (d) Code. The code is the Uniform Probate Code as adopted by the State of Minnesota.
