In a civil case, the Supreme Court may direct the Court of Appeal to award costs, if any; or may order the parties to bear their own costs; or may make any other award of costs the Supreme Court deems proper. The Supreme Court may impose sanctions on a party or an attorney under rule 8.276 for committing any unreasonable violation of these rules. Rule 8.544 amended effective July 1, 2008; adopted as rule 29.7 effective January 1, 2003; previously amended and renumbered effective January 1, 2007. Advisory Committee Comment If the Supreme Court makes an award of costs, the party claiming such costs must proceed under rule 8.278(c).
