New SOC 2010 In January 2010 the BLS Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) was updated. This year the BLS Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) began issuing prevailing wages using the new SOC occupations and a few transitional occupations. The OFLC iCERT system and FLC Data Center incorporated this data as of July 5, 2011. There are also some new occupations as well as changes to titles and definitions.

As a result, employers may find the occupation code used on previous applications is no longer available. Employers are responsible for determining the appropriate SOC. The links (below) to the BLS websites will provide additional information. To assist employers filing prevailing wage requests, the following chart provides examples of the 2010 SOC and the 2000 SOC for selected occupations issued by the NPWC: 2010 SOC 15-1132 2010 SOC title Software Developers, Applications 2000 SOC 15-1031 2000 SOC title Computer Software Engineers, Applications 15-1121 Computer Systems Analysts 15-1051 Computer Systems Analysts 15-1133 17-2072 Software Developers, Systems Software Electronics Engineers, Except Computer Computer and Information Systems Managers 15-1032 17-2072 Computer Software Engineers, Systems Software Electronics Engineers, Except Computer Computer and Information Systems Managers 11-3021 13-2011 Accountants and Auditors 29-1123 Physical Therapists 19-1021 Biochemists and Biophysicists 17-2141 Mechanical Engineers 11-3021 13-2011 Accountants and Auditors 29-1123 Physical Therapists 19-1021 Biochemists and Biophysicists 17-2141 Mechanical Engineers 37-3011 Landscaping and Groundskeeping Workers 37-3011 Landscaping and Groundskeeping Workers Additional information may be found at the following websites. http://www.bls.gov/SOC/ http://bls.gov/oes/current/oes_tec.htm Draft – Internal Use Only
